Wind from monsters roaring past buffeted the she-cat’s fur, and she trembled, but forced herself to hold her ground until both of the fighting cats had moved far enough away from the Path. She fought the urge to flinch as Redwater turned seething, angry eyes upon her, and, for a moment, she found herself wondering just what would happen if her own Clanmate turned his teeth and claws upon her. Redwater was much more skilled with fighting than she was – seeing the scuffle near the Thunderpath had been enough to confirm that – and Beartooth wasn’t sure she’d have the nerve to defend herself, even if the situation was dire.
After a moment, he seemed to take her side, to her relief – though his darkly-hissed threat send trembles through her frame, and she had to dig her claws into the earth to steady herself. It was a cruel threat, but one that seemed genuine, if Redwater’s tone was anything to go by. And he’d been trying to push the rogue into the path of oncoming monsters when Beartooth had intervened; somehow, the thought of him crippling a cat and leaving them in the middle of the road wasn’t too far a stretch. And, if the retort the rogue was saying was true, he hadn’t even technically been in the wrong. This close to the Thunderpath, scents were too overshadowed by the reek of monsters for Beartooth to be sure, but…
Did Redwater start all this…? She wasn’t sure she wanted to know the answer.
She forced her thick fur to lie as flat as it ever could – it was always in some sort of ruffled disarray – as her gaze focused upon Hades. She hoped the quiver in her voice wasn’t noticeable as she raised her tone to be heard above the monsters. ”Whether you’ve crossed our borders or not is any cat’s guess – it’s hard to distinguish them in areas like this. But you’re clearly close enough to raise suspicion, if nothing else,” she started, tail twitching anxiously as though worried Redwater might turn on her next for trying to remain neutral. ”No more blood needs to be shed today if you leave now, and promise to stay away – farther away than a couple of foxlengths beyond our borders, i-if you’re smart.” Beartooth wasn’t the sort to attack another cat simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but a lot of her Clanmates were far more confrontational than herself.
