The sun was a shinning beacon of light that sat perched in the sky above and warmed the earth beneath it. Soft caressing breezes flooded through the surrounding forests, brushing away the once settled remains of winter allowing the thick tresses of trees and bushes to heal themselves from the harsh snow and such that had plagued the land, months before. The animals that had lay dormant or mostly restless during the cold months, were not stirring and active with the warming season; birds chirped loudly and happily among themselves, snakes warmed themselves on perched rocks, and even squirrels dashed out lost in their own activities of the day.
A single form, was more active than the rest of them however. Lost within the shadows of some nearby bushes, the figure was that of a large tom cat. He blended well within his surroundings even with the strange and unusual colors of his pelt, muddled with whites, browns, yellows and black markings, it gave him perfect camouflage as he shifted forward on steady paws. His piercing golden, green eyes gleamed with determination as they locked on his prey ahead of him. A squirrel, who sat nibbling at a small acorn, its attention much too focused on its own food to realize it was being watched and stalked. A thick and long tail lashed, and those gleaming eyes narrowed, just as a lowly hiss escaped the back of his maw. And then...GO! Springing forward with a bounding of paws and a push of his muscles, the tom sprang forward, and dashed towards the squirrel. The thundering of pawsteps against the cool grasses had been enough to get the squirrel's attention, its ears perking slightly in response, whiles it beady black optics shifted towards the large cat bearing down upon it. It was a little too late. Letting out a louder hiss, the large cat, was upon it seconds later. He leaped, and while it had been a very lousy jump, this time luck was on his side. He landed with a loud thud, pinning the squirrel beneath him, a paw on its throat.
A quick dispatch of fangs into its throat stopped any struggle that may have started and only then, would the large tom pull back with a bloodied maw and let a loose grin spread to to his face. "Heh, I thought for sure, it was going to run for sure!" An amused and highly silly chuckle escaped the back of his throat, following by a short yet entertained twitch of his tail. " It was a good thing it didn't, I didn't think I had a second wind in me!" He spoke loudly and to no one in particular, clearly happy with his good luck this time around, before he allowed himself to settle down besides his prey. After taking a few short breaths, he reached out and gripped onto his prey and pulled it towards him. Leaning down he took a few nibbles of his prey, tasting it, before moving on to devour it completely within several more bites. Once finished the tom let out a loud bletch, before a yawn followed suit and then....a grumbling of his stomach. Golden, green optics blinked in confusion before they shifted down to his stomach, only to have a sigh follow suit, "Guess I'm still hungry...not surprised really, that squirrel wasn't enough...," His ears perked slightly, as he shifted his attention towards his surroundings, " I wonder if I could find something else...," Another sigh followed, before he shifted his large body until he was standing on all four paws again.
