It was high afternoon, and he felt the sun warm his orange pelt through the clouds. Keeping his head high, Marigoldflame stalked through ScorchClan's camp, his eyes roaming and surveying looking for one face in particular. He wasn't sure what to do, or what to say; he was still a little confused to say the least.
'Why me?' He thought as he searched. 'I know nothing about him. I'll be an awful mentor...' He stopped himself from thinking that and set his jaw. 'I will be the best mentor, just as I am the best warrior. I will teach him all I know.' He couldn't believe that this was the decision Ashstar had made, but he was a loyal, respectful warrior of ScorchClan. If he wanted to be the best warrior, he would have to learn to be the best teacher as well.
He felt a little betrayed, and had spent all of the previous night out in the forests growling at StarClan and begging for answers. He yowled in the night towards the stars, tears of anger welling up. After hours of sitting alone in the dark forest, he accepted that there would be no answers for him.
Seeing the cat he was looking for waiting near the entrance of the camp, Marigoldflame padded up; his silhouette from the high sun making him look much larger than the large tom already was. As he approached, he looked over the apprentice--his apprentice. His fur was a dusty white, and his eyes a gold color.
Marigoldflame withheld the annoyance that tried to creep into his tone and tried to relax his face as much as possible, into what should have been a small smile. If this was a challenge from StarClan, he accepted it and pledged to be the best mentor he could be. A soft, trembling voice spoke to him in the back of his mind with a helpful tip: 'remember that he did nothing wrong to you.' He held onto this as he gathered the courage to speak. Clearing his throat softly from the nerves building in his stomach, his deep voice came forth.
